In boxing circles, the "half point" scoring system has been discussed. I know a country or two has tried it out.. Pereira/Ankalaev made me think of it..

I thought Pereira won 3 rounds, but it didn't feel right to say he won the fight because the rounds he won were by slim margins, whereas Ankalaev won his rounds pretty handily.

Using the half-point system, instead of..

Code: Select all

Rd 1: Pereira wins 10-9
Rd 2: Ankalaev wins 10-9
Rd 3: Pereira wins 10-9
Rd 4: Ankalaev wins 10-9
Rd 5: Pereira wins 10-9

Pereira wins 48-47
You have something like..

Code: Select all

Rd 1: Pereira wins 10-9.5*
Rd 2: Ankalaev wins 10-9
Rd 3: Pereira wins 10-9.5
Rd 4: Ankalaev wins 10-9
Rd 5: Pereira wins 10-9.5

Ankalaev wins 48.5-48

* - Would need to watch again... may have given a 10-9 here, resulting in a draw.

Thoughts?

I think there should also be more 10-10 draw rounds scored.
