Having failed to get back in the octagon in 2024, Conor McGregor has set a rather lofty goal for 2025, which is in keeping with his confident demeanor. The Irish fighter wants ten fights for the year, doing so after a December comeback was ruled out by UFC supremo Dana White.
It’s now more than three years since McGregor fought, breaking a leg during his July 2021 loss to Dustin Poirier, and the two-time UFC Champion is clearly itching to get back to doing what he does best, namely pulling in the fans for his fights and more often than not, overcoming his opponents.
It had looked as if he would take on Michael Chandler in June, but a toe injury suffered by McGregor saw that clash canceled, and the 36-year-old clearly can’t wait to get back into the swing of things.
Whenever McGregor fights, PPV events skyrocket and interest in UFC soars, not least because, for many, he is the face of the UFC; this is also mirrored in the betting action that occurs. On that note, here you’ll find all the info and knowledge you may need in relation to the search for an online betting site with competitive odds for MMA fights.
Having been out of the fight business for over three years, clearly, McGregor is desperate to get back to doing what he knows best, namely seeing off opponents in explosive UFC clashes.
When asked how many fights he’d like to have in 2025, he responded ten, which is obviously wishful thinking and fans of the Dubliner will just be keen to see him get back out there.
McGregor has been very busy during his time away from UFC exploring a number of other opportunities, chief among them being his role in the Jake Gyllenhaal remake of the 80s classic Road House, which proved a relatively big hit.
On his imminent return, White stated,
‘He’s had so much time off. As far as the hunger, he’s a very wealthy guy.’
‘We’ll find out. We’ll find out when he comes back.’
‘But he is definitely one of the big superstars of the sport that elevated the UFC all throughout Europe and other parts of the world.’
‘He’s been a big star and a great partner for us.’ White concluded, which is something of an understatement. McGregor has been the poster boy for UFC for years, and in many ways, they need him more than he needs them.
McGregor’s first UFC fight came way back in 2008 when he dealt with Gary Morris via a TKO in Dublin. His road to stardom was, however, very rocky. He suffered losses to Artemij Sitenkov in his third fight and to Joseph Duffy in 2010. However, he then went undefeated for the next five years, getting to a healthy 19-2 record before losing to Nate Diaz by submission in Las Vegas in 2016.
Those two losses to Dustin Poirier in 2021 were definitely something of a blow, but McGregor should never be ruled out, and as soon as he gets back into the action, you can expect something of a statement performance.
